Sapphires are incredible stones which come in a wide variety of colors. Historically, the most iconic sapphires are blue, but in recent years, pink sapphires have picked up in both interest and rarity. Kashmir Sapphires are arguably the most rare stone in the world given that the Kashmir mine has been closed for centuries. Currently, royal blue and vivid pink sapphires from Sri Lanka (Ceylon) and Madagascar are considered very desirable. Commercially all the colors of corundum except red (Ruby) are called sapphires (Blue, Pink, Yellow, Green…).
